OZ POWERBALL

THE LOW-DOWN ON THE LOTTO DOWN UNDER

Australia may be on the other side of the world for many of us, but the good news is that you don’t need to share an ocean to enter the Oz Powerball. That’s right – not many people realize that you can enter other lotteries and that a lot of national lotteries are won by people who don’t come from or reside in that particular country or state. Not everyone’s a fan of globalization, but for those of us who don’t have access to the bigger jackpots, hey – we’re not complaining. So how does the Oz Powerball work?

Unlike other lotto games, you need to get 7 matching numbers to win an Oz Powerball jackpot. Although the jackpot total changes, division 1 winners will receive a guaranteed jackpot of $2 million. The maximum grand prize is another story and can reach over $50 million. Every Tuesday, the Oz Powerball draw takes place.

The Oz Powerball has seven prize divisions, the most sought-after being division 1. Division 1 is – you guessed it – the jackpot division. 9 balls are drawn at random from 45 balls (numbered from 1 through to 45). The first 7 of the 9 balls drawn are the ‘winning numbers’; the last 2 out of the 9 are the ‘supplementary numbers’.

If you don’t hit the jackpot on the first try (hey, we’re not sure if anyone has, so don’t feel too bad), you might be pleased to know that you only need 3 matching numbers (with 1 or 2 supplementary numbers) to win a prize. While getting all 7 winning numbers matched is no easy task, getting 3 or more to win a prize is much more within reach.

Some people think that playing the lottery online is complicated, but we think it’s actually easier than buying a ticket over the counter. Aside from how easy is, it’s also convenient – no waiting around, no battling traffic and queues, no mislaying or damaging your ticket – when you buy an Oz Powerball (or any lotto!) ticket online, you save yourself a ton of hassle. Plus, you don’t have to fly to Australia to play or to collect your prize money (which, let’s be honest, might put a bit of an unnecessary dent in your prize money).
It’s pretty straightforward – now all you need to do is get your hands on that winning ticket!
